MWS AI has released Kodify Nano, an open AI assistant designed to help programmers in software development. It is powered by a language model with 1.5 billion parameters that can be run even on a laptop.

Kodify Nano supports up to 32,000 tokens in context (about 16,000-25,000 lines of code, depending on the programming language) and 90 languages including Python, Java, JavaScript, C# and Go. The assistant can automatically supplement or improve code, generate tests, create documents, write a code based on descriptions, and parse a code written by others.

Kodify Nano can be downloaded from MWS AI website and the Hugging Face platform& It is also supplied with a plugin compatible with popular editors and developer environments. You can deploy it in a closed circuit, eliminating the code leak risk, adapt it for specific uses, or fine-tune it using your own data. The quantized version of the model requires only 1 Gb of RAM.

“The business digitalization age is coming to an end; the age of AI transformation is upon us. The transition to generative AI requires companies to employ talent capable of handling it. We open access to our models to help them train that talent, giving professionals a chance to test them on their devices and choose the best tools. On top of that, open models boost growth of teams that handle hands-on applications: they do not have to waste resources collecting data for their basic functions: idea generation, text analysis, classification and summaries,” says Denis Filippov, CEO of MWS AI.

Open models can be used, modified, or distributed free of charge, giving developers a chance to adapt them for their own purposes, run them on their own devices and create derivative products without limitations. Proprietary models, on the other hand, are owned by developer companies, require a paid subscription or impose strict license constraints. Companies use open models for localized deployment, e.g. to test the AI in a protected environment without uploading any data to the cloud. Developers fine-tune these models for specific purposes. Researchers study their architecture in order to improve algorithms or design new solutions.

Kodify Nano is the company’s second open model. Cotype Nano, a language model for content creation, data analysis and client support was launched in November 2024. It has been downloaded over 10,000 times in six months.
